Two ways to get laid off which is better?
I earn a living as a bus driver working for a private company fulfilling a government public transit contract.In my current position, I am 19 out of 24. Actually as of next week, I am 19 out of 20. 4 drivers were cut. Only three trips were cut, but to cover them and others the company is exploiting a flaw in the union contract and adding to the work schedule of most drivers at literally a cost of $3 4 a day per driver so those of us remaining get a " raise" .This may not be the end of cuts. The company says 20 or 19 could be let go in a few weeks. Even 16 isn't safe... They just don't know.The alternative is to be 5 out of 5 that when the contract expires 1 year from now, 5 is gone. Right now 5 is vacant. 4 is 63 and in poor health, but probably can " hang in" until he's 66. If I take this job, it is about 98 % certain I will be cut a year from now. Between now and then, it is 100 % certain I am safe. Which would you choose?Yes they are bid runs. Low guys get bumped around every time the bids change.

I am on 3 month leave of abscene from my job and just learned that my entire department was laid off last week and our " official" termination date is April 1. Since my leave will not end by then can the company still lay me off or what can happened if my doctor does not release me back to work before April 1.

My husband was laid off yesterday and has to return the company vehicle today, leaving him with nothing to drive Can they demand that it gets returned so soon? BTW, we live in Canada.Are there any laws for when you are laid off? He is getting some pay for the next couple of months but it is just for his base salary. His commission was almost as much as the salary but he is not getting that.
Can I look for a new job, if I'm technically not laid off from my previous one?
I had a job as a contractor until the end of last year. In that job I didn't have a fixed amount of hours each week, I got whatever was available. Then in January I heard I won't have any work for a while, but that I would be contacted if there was further work to do. My boss even said " you can look for another contract" . But I still have the company's email address and a laptop from my boss although it could be an old laptop he wanted to throw out anyway . My boss emailed me about a paycheck issue as recently as 2 weeks ago, without mentioning whether or when I would be back to work. There's also an agreement in my contract that I must notify my boss 30 days in advance before I quit the job. If I looked for a full time, permenant job, do I tell them I'm currently employed or not? Do I tell them about the 30 day notice? What if my old boss says, " what you're quitting on me in the middle of a project" ?

I'm the non custodial parent who is currently laid off w out insurance whose kids 2ndary insurance refuses to pay. I have always had health insurance along with paying child support, however since being laid off I have not had health insurance on them, but manage to pay support with unemployment benefits. My ex husband said his insurance who is the kids 2ndary insurance provider is now calling him about payment and are refusing to pay anything demanding I get health insurance per Divorce decree court order as they will not cover. Again, Im not working and havent had luck finding anything so I started going to school. I thought since there is no longer a primary, the secondary will kick in? I understand it was in a COURT ORDER I provide it, but I have no job but do pay the support. is there any way around this so his ins. will cover the medical? He gave me his ins.info to call them to get this squared away. Which I have spoken to them in the past and provided my unemplyment info. They want my current husband to add them to his insurance now since I've remarried and my spouse has insurance? Please help, I dont see why the 2ndary wont cover the medical fees till I get insurance since I'm suppose to be primary per divorce decree... i've tried Daily at that but havent landed anything. 1 second ago

My Boss has already cut my hour in HALF, which allowed me to go to school. He doesn't pay me on the day I'm supposed to get paid which is Friday, I get paid on Monday because he forgets to put the hours in. As stated in my contract when I started working there, he didn't give me my one week paid vacation, or $300 Tuition reimbursement. My husband and I are going to need to take out a loan for a car in August 2010 and was wondering how being laid of from Sept 2009 until May 2010 will affect this.
