Can your employer ask you to reapply for your position after a short layoff?
I was laid off on October 1st of 2011, and when I asked if I was coming back the answer was that the position may change and I might not have the education for it. I just read in the want ads and the position is the same as when I applied. I was told I could re apply. Why would that be when I have all of the qualifications? I did not leave for my lay off on a bad note. Can this be done?
Are second shift jobs most vulnerable to layoffs?
I am working in a second shift timings in an IT position in US . With recession and bad economy, I was wondering if second shift guys are most vulnerable to layoffs than normal shift? Any experiences
I need information on temporary layoff and what my rights is.?
I was informed at work about 3 and a half weeks ago that because of work being quiet i had to be temporary laid off and recieved a letter saying that much and my p45. I was under the understanding it would only be for a week but how wrong was i. The 1st week of my lay off i received 111 pounds but since then nothing. I have been with my current employer for little over 3 years and have no contract so it was never informed about lay offs or that it might happen. Since then i have send my boss a text to ask about work and he said that they are trying to pull jobs forward.....that was 2 weeks ago. I need help as cant afford to wait around anymore and want to do something about this. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Is this annual holiday layoff legal?
I recently had a conversation with my mom about her new job. She told me that, all the employees, every year, get laid off for 2 weeks during thanksgiving and Christmas, so the company can avoid having to pay for holiday and or vacation pay. They encourage the employees to collect a unemployment check during this short layoff period. Clearly this is a shady, heartless, practice, but is it legal? This is in Michigan
What is a layoff through attrition?
I was wondering if this was a term they taught in business school. I see many corporations use this term. Though, I think they might make it excruciatingly difficult to work in the organization and this difficulty is what leads to attrition. Please share some insight with me.How do executives force create attritious environments? Isn't this term corporate double speak. I wroked at bankofamerica during the recession and it sucked. I remember they were laying people off through " attrition" . 30,000 people

Workers Compensation/layoffs?
I was recently working for USPS. My job title was casual clerk. I was told that the casual position was going to be eliminated for clerks and I'd have to reapply for the new job title of PSE, and if I did not do so I was to be given the choice to be converted to a mailhandler or to be laid off. I did not reapply and a few weeks later I was hurt on the job. I was constantly given shit over being hurt from both management and a few of the other employees but I still came into work and did what my restrictions allowed. My hours got cut, i had to take two weeks off of work, and well...I wasn't making a lot of money. Anyways...When the time came for the big choice at which point I needed the money desperately I was told, by the MDO way up there , that I couldn't be converted because I couldn't do the mailhandler job due to my work related injury . I then pointed out to her that they had limited duty jobs for mailhandlers as well and she asked if I was getting released by the doctor soon and I told her I wasn't sure, when I said that she huffed and puffed and waddled away. I got laid off about a week later and I needed to know specifically the rules that state that they were not allowed to do that, if any. I have been having the hardest time trying to figure this out on my own and I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can give me with this. Thank you.
Would I be qualified for layoff (or unemployment)?
I drive truck for a living. We lost the contract on my run of over 4 years now, and the company doesn't have work in my area. The nearest work is over 400 miles away. They are willing to pay air fair to and from, as well as pay for a hotel for a 2 week on 1 week off schedule. With my current home situation and obligations, I am unable to follow the work. I don't want to quit, but I have to work. Can I file for unemployment?
Will get layoff but employer offered other job at other location? should I accepted or open unemployment.?
I was told last Friday that i will get layoff due the company economic situation. My employer asked me if I wanted to go to other location witch is about 2 hour away from my current location and no compensation for driving to the other location or relocation benefits. So I'm thinking not going to the other location and my question is if I open my unemployment and the fact that I refused to move to the other location it is going to affect the unemployment benefits? or i should say is it a possible that my benefits get denied?
Are there any careers that have no worries about cutbacks or layoffs?
Does the sale of ING DIRECT to Capital One mean layoffs for ING DIRECT?
Are layoffs coming for government employees?
The speaker of house doesn't want anyone to lose their job whether they are federal or not. Federal Government is forced into cutting spending because they need to restrain the over exertion of their printing press at the central bank. If you are a state, county or municipal employee, are you concerned because 45 of 50 states are facing huge deficit and states can't print money so they must balance cut tax. I fear that government employees turn for massive layoffs may be looming in similitude of what private sector employees experienced few years ago.If you are a government employee such as a state , should you now start looking for another job maybe in a state not facing the deficit or in a private sector? Or maybe consider immigrating to India or People's Republic of China?Zork Anyone who calls President Obama an idiot is an idiot him herself. The President is not an idiot. He just doesn't have the ability to do the magic that his supporters thought he could.
Laid off last summer, working again now for 8 months, should i mention the old layoff in new interviews?

401k Distribution After LayOff?
My husband has just been laid off and unemployment isn't going to cut it we will lose our home if we do not tap his 401k in a matter of weeks. The company says it will not distribute or rollover the money until the end of the plan year plus administration time that would be April 15th of 2012. I know that they are within the actual law. There must be a way to get this distribution now and avoid losing our home. They do not offer withdrawals or loans to employees . Please help.To answer questions NO loan, NO fraud, NO reason to withhold funds, 100 %Vested Also, the layoff has triggered a Partial Plan Termination because more than 20 % of the employees More than 50 % actually have been terminated.I also, have left companies with 401k distributed quickly have never heard of this time frame. There is no reason for them to hold this 'Administratively Feasible' is open to interpretation, but this is a bit ridiculous given the circumstances and the fact that the valuation happens daily with the investment company.
