Is it legal to lay someone off without a reason. This this legal in California? I know someone who they let go and gave no reason and hired someone else for the job.

My department is having layoffs..?
I myself would rather be laid off and look for another job because the new location they are moving to is over 1 1 2 away. I was thinking that if they told me that I had a position there that I would say that I appreciate that but I am seeking other employment and they might want to not sink in their money and training into someone who is just going to quit. But mostly I would like them to consider someone who has a family to support, Im single, I would be fine on unemployment until I got another job. Would this be a good thing or a bad thing to say to them?I have to clarify that if they offer me a position I will except it, I just wanted to know if I should suggest that they give it to someone else who is in more need of it and that I am seeking other employment. But if they still want to offer me the job I will take it. And the the other poster, I said I was single, I do not have a family to support. Which is why I would feel terrible if I got the position above a co woker who does and also does a good job.

first job after college, awesome engineering company, 3 years.got laid off due to project delay. others got laid off as well. " financing" not " performance" but felt i was " thrown out abandoned" by my boss. he had project $ but wouldn't give it.couldn't get a case to " fire" me so laid me off instead.the engineering business i'm in is very close, so i see his name pop up, as well as other former co workers most of whom i am on good terms with, while others i am just on " cool" terms with . I still get a bit of angst anger when I see the company name over a project, since past story . how should i feel? what should i say if i see them? what should i not say?

The company that I work for in Texas is offering a 26 weeks supplemental pay to employees over 10 years, in which I qualify. I work part time and am considering if I should take this? Should I stay in hopes that I will be kept on? When a company does a layoff who is the first to go? I do not have medical with the company only dental vision which I pay for. How will taking the offer and unemployment go together if I were to take the 26 weeks supplemental pay? I have not ever experienced a situation such as this and need every advise I can get from those have been through this or is going through this. Seasonal Layoff looking for new job?
Im on a seasonal layoff right now, and Im needing another job to get me through the next couple of months. Whats the best thing to say in an interview? Should I tell them I only plan on being there for a couple of months? Any advice will be helpful. JasonW.
